Island Animal Clinic Equine Services
Dr. Woodward-Ryan has been treating equine patients since 1982. Island Animal Clinic offers equine services ranging from vaccinations, to breeding services, to sports medicine.
We also offer an all inclusive wellness program for your horse. The program includes all preventative medicine needed for an entire year such as vaccinations, dental care, and fecal checks. Please call 734-671-3090 for more details.
Our services include:
Tetanus, encephalomyelitis and rabies are boosted annually. Influenza, herpes virus, ehrlichiosis and west nile virus boosters are given every 6 months to those horses that are at risk. Our program follows AAEP guidelines and we take into consideration what your individual horse is at risk for contracting.
We offer a wide range of diagnostic services for your horse. Portable radiology, ultrasound, and in house blood work to get results faster.
Dental care is one of the most important things you can do for your equine companion. Yearly dental exams are recommended to determine if dental work is required. By law equine dentistry must be preformed by a licensed veterinarian. By performing routine dental work aided by sedation and power float equipment, we can help to maintain proper dental occlusion, prevent further dental disease, and allow the horse to properly chew its food.
Island Animal Clinic uses current techniques in parasite prevention and treatment. With our program, fecal egg counts are performed before any dewormer is given to determine the type and amount of parasites your horse may have. We will then design a dewormer program specific for your horse and perform a re-check fecal egg count to make sure it is working. This helps to prevent and identify parasite resistance.
Sports medicine is designed to keep your athlete in top condition to win those blue ribbons. Horses are expensive animals, they deserve to receive
the most up to date medicine. Stem cell, PRP, intra-articular injections,
physical therapy, shock wave therapy are all common place in equine medicine.
It is highly recommended to have a prepurchase exam done before you buy a horse. This is to protect your investment. Exams range from a physical to an exam including radiology and or ultrasound.
Negative coggins testing and health certificates are required to ship horses to shows, across state lines, to trail rides, competitions, etc. We can do them for you. If you plan to cross the border into Canada special papers are required. We can complete them for you.
